Scootlund is famed fur mony hings, fur sic a wee land thair output 'n' influence oan th' world is pure ferr astonishing. Among ither hings thay invented th' tellybox, th' pedal bicycle, th' adhesive postage stamp, th' BBC, th' ATM 'n' dealg 'n' finally golf. Scots hae a few hings tae say aboot th' popularisation o' thair gifts tae th' world 'n' this quote aboot golf tickled me.

“Golf has ceased to be a peculiarly national game. It is now no longer a pastime for the impecunious Scot, armed with two of three clubs, and a feather ball, it has become a professional sport, pursued by devastating hordes of foreigners among whom the American tongue rises shrill and strident.”

What does this hae tae dae wi' world fairn? Essentially hee haw bit we hae dane 30 or sae o' thae gastronomic adventures 'n' I’m starting tae struggle fur inspiration.

Our trip tae scootlund (via fitzrovia) stairted in relaxed fashion, 'til a message wis received signalling th' imminent arrival o' pre-starters. Pool stick a stampede tae th' restaurant 'n' a gate crashing o' sorts. Fortunately thare wur plenty o' haggis pops tae gang round althoogh this didn’t stoap us immediately ordering loads mair bowls o' thae gusty morsels, as weel as some fish fingers, a dish o' mushrooms 'n' egg 'n' finally enough black puddin cratur eggs tae feed an airmie. Th' cratur eggs 'n' th' haggis pops wur truly magnificent 'n' a stoatin wey tae showcase some underappreciated ingredients.

Following th' sterters chat progressed, as it aye does, tae main courses. 'Twas cleverly decided that mac 'n' wild insae a sharing 'n' caring restaurant 'n' that attendees shuid order fur themselves. This didnae stoap th' occasional lineup o' a strategic sharing alliance. Th' maist folk ordered venison burgers, some wi'oot pickles – whilk itself pat th' waitress in a pickle – while yin lone wolf ordered posh fish 'n' anither opted fur th' chateaubriand, simply tae fin' oot whit it actually is.

Mains wur accompanied by a selection o' sides, haggis mac 'n' crowdie 'n' plenty o' fries. Th' mac 'n' crowdie wasn’t ferr as saucy as we’d hae liked bit th' burgers gaed doon an absolute treat likelie helped by th' consumption o' copious whiskies (when in rome).

Unexcited by th' prospect o' dessert (sticky taffy puddin – resolutely English) we made a swift departure 'n' sped aff intae th' nicht.
